    • Petone Sportsville Concept Report – March 2017
      • Petone Sportsville is seeking Council funding support to re-develop the sport and recreation facilities on Petone Rec and North Park to ensure they are fit for multiple future uses and to attract more users. The design concepts retain the existing green space at Petone Rec and North Park for full community use. The draft design plans focus the proposed shared facilities on North Park rather than Petone Rec. The draft design concepts, developed jointly by Hutt City Council and PSV in consultation with PSV member clubs, give an idea of what is possible but still need further work to accommodate the specific needs of our member clubs and community now and into the future. The draft design concept images give a broad picture of how these Petone sports grounds could look in the future. • Feasibility Study Update
      • The Hutt City Council set aside $50,000 in 2014/15 for a feasibility study of facilities re-development on North Park and Petone Rec. Following our clubs meeting in November, PSV have been pushing the Council and Community Facilities Trust (CFT) along to get the feasibility study moving! We have made good progress and proposals to carry out the feasibility study are being sought from a range of potential contractors this month. PSV is involved on the committee overseeing this tender process and will be part of any ongoing decision-making relating to the feasibility study. We will update our clubs once the contractor is appointed with further details on the approach to the feasibility study, club involvement and timing.

    • Petone Kid 2015
      •     The inaugural PetoneKid Multisport Event was run on Saturday 14 February. We had a good number of brave and weather abiding local youth ranging from 8 years – 12 years participated in the event, as well as competitors in the PetoneMan  event. The day was great fun for the all the kids involved and feedback provided was especially encouraging for Petone Sportsville.  PSV member clubs showed great support and the day could not have been run better without the large number of volunteers. Clubs were willing to put their time into the event and collaborate with each other to bring a fun filled, productive day for the kids. It was great to see support for the vision of Petone Sportsville to have all clubs working closely together for our community. Petone Sportsville looks forward to holding an even greater event again next year.

During late 2013 Petone Sportsville commissioned research to learn about Petone residents’ views on a multi-sports hub at North Park and Petone Recreation Ground. A survey of 202 eligible Petone residents found a high level of interest in the opportunities that an enhanced multi-sports hub might provide. Key survey findings included that: • 81% of survey respondents (or their immediate family) currently used North Park and/or Petone Recreation grounds and facilities for sport and recreation. • 52% of respondents (or their immediate family) belonged to a Petone sports club. • 92% of respondents said that they and their family would use the facilities of an enhanced multi-sports hub. • 75% of respondents said that they and their family would do more sport and recreation if there was an enhanced multi-sports hub in Petone. • Indoor courts and artificial turf were the most popular facilities for inclusion in an enhanced multi-sports hub. The full survey results can be downloaded here: Survey findings: Petone residents’ views on a multi-sports hub at North Park and Petone Recreation Ground Note that this survey was undertaken in November 2013, prior to the public announcement in February 2014 of the proposed development of a boutique stadium (‘Petone Arena’) at Petone Recreation Ground

      • Although the final day of the Blind Bowls Nationals started in drizzly weather at Petone Central yesterday the weather cleared to allow the final  three rounds of the pairs competition to be completed. The winners were found in all of the four divisions after some hard fought matches. In the B1 division Marilyn Savage (Director Anne Easton) and Louise Henry (Director Debbie Hutchinson) won the title from Parveen Shankar (Director Kevin McGregor) and Christine Litchfield (Director Elizabeth Hennelly) in second place. The B2 title was also a hard fought division with the Singles winner Ron Syme (Director Takai Rahui) teaming up with Mohit Arora (Director Di Sharpe) to win the final against a brand new blind bowler from Auckland, Gerald Brouwers (Director Willie Carter) and Steve Yagmich (Director Martin Lydster). The B3/B4 title was won by  a Hawkes Bay pair. Don Clark (Director Phillip McNeill), a very experienced player but playing in his first nationals teamed up with Ken Jordan (Director Fay Chisholm) to take out the event. Finishing in second place were David Stallard (Director Peter Blick) and Violet Coates (Director Barbara Dunn). The New Zealand Blind Bowling Association is delighted with the event and the participation of all players and directors during the championship. Considerable progress was made by players in their first and second year of competitive bowls and also by more experienced players who were competing in their first national championships. The national titles were won by a diverse range of players many of whom were playing in their first nationals. Grateful thanks are extended to all of the volunteers from Petone Central under the daily leadership of their President Sandra Prichard. Without the support of all of the hard workers from Petone Central and other nearby clubs this event would not have been the great success that it was. Special mention and grateful thanks needs to go to Yvonne Gibb for her leadership from the outset in planning the coordination and logistical details of the event and the Tournament Director Gerry McGregor from the Johnsonville Club who ran the event on a daily basis and made sure it proceeded in an efficient and fun manner. Our thanks to you all. Any Club who would like to be considered as the host club for the 2014 Nationals to be held at the end of November or early December is invited to contact the NZBLBA President, Greg Johnson at gregjohnson@orcon.net.nz .
