Hold Still - 24 June, Film Archive
- 26 Jun 2009
- Texture
- The new sound and video installation ‘Hold Still’ opened to much flurry and intrigue on Wednesday evening. The work which is situated in the Film Archive’s Mediagallery space is both poignant and charming; as artist Rachel Shearer does an extraordinary job at showcasing the work of amateur female film-makers during the 1930’s in New Zealand.

- ‘So, where do I get the DVD?’
- ‘Thanks! As the writer (and introducer) of the film it was SO much fun to watch the audience rather than the film when certain bits were coming up. BTW, I would be remiss in my duties if I didn't (self-)promote the website nightofthehellhamsters.co’
- ‘Well that was a lot of fun. Night of the Hell Hamsters was especially funny, though I think this is one horror film that was more difficult for guys to watch. There was one scene where I had to cover my eyes.’

- ‘Yes - it will be a mixture of old newsreels as well as TV footage. There's a list of the programme at: http://events.filmarchive.org.nz/event.php?eventInstanceID=3902&eventID=890 Great night out for a koha!’
- ‘On the subject of film, Dom-Post reviewer and doco maker Graeme Tuckett has given me permission to post his appreciation of the late Barry Barclay at Funerals & Snakes. It's a good read.’
- ‘Anna, will those be old news reels? Years (decades?) ago the film society programmed a whole lot of newsreel screenings, they were immensely popular. And hilarious.’
