Interim Chief Executive Debbie Chin thanked the ICU team for providing exemplary patient care to the wider region, while also actively fostering and supporting on-going training and development for both medical and nursing staff. “It’s an honour to be here today celebrating this extraordinary department, who have had another busy year. All areas of care are taken incredibly seriously and what is equally encouraging is that this is recognised outside these walls.” “Our ICU has been named by HQSC as the most compliant level 3 ICU in the country for CLAB practice, and we have been CLAB free for over 466 days, which is a fantastic achievement,” said Debbie.  Intensive Care specialist Dr Peter Hicks said the history of Wellington ICU was the history of intensive care in New Zealand and Australia. “It has been a real privilege to work here the past 15 years, especially with the unsung heroes of the unit – the nursing staff. Together we get to be with families at their most stressed and vulnerable and this intimacy is a real privilege and a reminder of what is most important aspect of our work.” Article written by Matt Patterson, CCDHB Communication Officer.
