    • Concert: Saturday Service – YOLK & Violet Hirst 7 August 3pm
      • Remember mid winter with this intimate matinee performance of two of Poneke’s finest alt folk acts, YOLK and Violet Hirst. Saturday 7 August 2021, 3pm YOLK: Drawing inspiration from 70’s folk-rock and ’90s grunge, YOLK performs a cathartic lounge act ripe with sincere cynicism and tears for your beer lines to live by. As acoustic guitars pluck somber and sweet, a heavy vocal tells it straight like your favourite heartfelt broken record. Violet Hirst: Violet Hirst started her music career in her hometown of Queenstown, playing the local venues every so often but truly found her sound in the capital, Wellington. With songs that are sung in a purple haze while staring at the mountains, Violet’s music draws influence from the mountains that surround her, the love shown by her parents and the most hidden notes from her diary. Tickets $15.  To book, click here For more information see Yolk’s Bandcamp page and Facebook page.

    • Tararua Album Launch at Futuna 24 July 2021
      • Futuna Chapel is honoured to be hosting an album launch for Tararua’s new album ‘Bird Like Men’ on Saturday 24 July 2021 at 6pm.  This very special event will be the debut performance of Taraua’s first full repertoire concert. The new album will be available at the concert as a free download to all ticket holders. Tickets ($20) are limited. Please book here. For a taste of the music of Tararua, check out their single on Bandcamp. This beautiful track, ‘Puaka’ was just released to mark the beginning of the Māori New Year. Puaka is the Kāi Tahu dialect name of the whetu (star) Puanga, which is  an important signifier of the Māori New Year for some iwi. Tararua (meaning ‘two peaks’), connects whakapapa, from mountains in both North and South Islands. This contemporary New Zealand art music weaves the voices of Aoraki, the spiritual home of Ruby Solly and Ariana Tikao, winding through Te Waipounamu raised, Wellington based artist Al Fraser, and merging into Phil Boniface’s birthplace and connection with the Tararua ranges. For more information see their Facebook page.
